Zakaznik
A zakaznik (Russian: заказник, IPA: [zɐˈkaznʲɪk]) is a type of protected area in Russia and some other post-Soviet states. It represents a land area or water body designated for temporary or permanent protection to conserve specific species of flora and fauna, maintain ecological balance, or for scientific research.
Unlike zapovedniks (strict nature reserves), which are strictly protected and generally off-limits to the public, zakazniks typically allow some economic activities, such as hunting, fishing, or logging, but with restrictions and regulations designed to minimize negative impact on the protected environment. The level of restriction varies considerably depending on the specific zakaznik and the goals of its establishment.
The term "zakaznik" can be broadly translated as "sanctuary," "reserve," or "managed area." The specific regulations governing a particular zakaznik are usually outlined in its establishment decree and are enforced by government agencies. The management regime is less stringent compared to a zapovednik, focusing on targeted conservation efforts rather than complete exclusion of human activity.
