Edward Briggs (politician)
Edward Briggs (born circa 1803, date of death unknown) was an American politician who served as the fourth Mayor of Chicago, Illinois, from 1842 to 1843.
Briggs, a Democrat, was elected mayor in 1842, defeating Josiah Goodhue. His tenure focused on establishing a formal financial structure for the burgeoning city and addressing public works projects. He presided over the initial incorporation of the city's fire department.
After serving one term, Briggs was defeated by Augustus Garrett in the 1843 mayoral election. Information regarding his life before and after his term as mayor remains limited.
