Scary Tales (comics)

Scary Tales is a horror comic book anthology series published by Zenescope Entertainment. Launched in 2005, the series reimagines classic fairy tales and folklore with a dark, often sexually suggestive, and graphically violent twist. Unlike Zenescope's flagship title, Grimm Fairy Tales, which features original stories set within an overarching narrative, Scary Tales typically presents standalone narratives that reinterpret familiar stories. Each issue usually features a different fairy tale adapted into a horror format, exploring themes of morality, revenge, and the consequences of transgression. Characters from beloved stories are often portrayed as monstrous or deeply flawed individuals, highlighting the darkness lurking beneath the surface of traditional narratives. The series frequently includes strong female characters, though their depictions are often debated due to the sexualized nature of the artwork. While initially running as an ongoing series, it has also been published as mini-series and one-shots over the years.
