Le Mirail

Le Mirail is a large urban complex located in Toulouse, France. Conceived in the late 1960s and early 1970s by architect Georges Candilis as part of a broader urban planning initiative to address housing shortages and population growth, Le Mirail was designed as a "ville nouvelle" (new town) on the western outskirts of Toulouse.

The district is characterized by its modernist architectural style, with large-scale apartment buildings and pedestrian zones. The intent was to create a self-sufficient community with residential areas, schools, commercial centers, and cultural facilities. Le Mirail is divided into several sectors, including Mirail-Université, Reynerie, Bellefontaine, and Basso Cambo. Each sector possesses its own distinct identity and characteristics.

Over time, Le Mirail has faced social and economic challenges, including high rates of unemployment, poverty, and crime.
