Z-Boys

The Z-Boys, also known as the Zephyr Competition Team, were a skateboarding team formed in Venice, California, in the early to mid-1970s. They were sponsored by the Zephyr Surf Shop. The team's innovative and aggressive skateboarding style, heavily influenced by surfing, revolutionized the sport. Members included Jay Adams, Tony Alva, Stacy Peralta, and many others who became influential figures in skateboarding history. The Z-Boys are credited with popularizing a more fluid and aerial approach to skateboarding, moving away from the more rigid and formal styles of the time. Their impact on skateboarding culture and its subsequent development is significant and widely recognized. The team's story has been documented in the 2001 documentary Dogtown and Z-Boys and the 2005 fictionalized film Lords of Dogtown.
