Yang You

Yang You (楊侑, 605 – 14 September 619), also known as Emperor Gong of Sui (隋恭帝), was the last emperor of the Sui Dynasty of China, although he reigned in name only. He was placed on the throne in 617 by Li Yuan (later Emperor Gaozu of Tang) after the overthrow of Emperor Yang of Sui.

Yang You was a grandson of Emperor Yang and a son of Yang Zhao, Prince Xia. After Li Yuan seized the Sui capital Chang'an, he declared Yang You emperor but effectively held power himself. In 618, after news of Emperor Yang's death arrived, Li Yuan forced Yang You to abdicate and established the Tang Dynasty, becoming Emperor Gaozu.

Yang You was demoted to the title of Duke of Liang. He was secretly murdered a year later in 619 by order of Li Yuan, fearing potential future claims to the throne. His posthumous name was Duke Gong of Sui (隋恭公). He is not considered a proper emperor in the traditional historical view, as his reign was under duress and he lacked actual power. His era name was Yining (義寧).
