Yagori
Yagori refers to a traditional Korean confection, also known as "yakgwa" (약과). It is a deep-fried honey cookie made primarily from flour, sesame oil, honey, and ginger juice. The dough is typically shaped into flower patterns or other decorative forms before being fried until golden brown and then soaked in syrup. Yagori is a popular treat enjoyed during special occasions such as weddings, ancestral rites (charye), and holidays like Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving). It is characterized by its sweet flavor, slightly chewy texture, and aromatic combination of honey, ginger, and sesame. Historically, yakgwa was considered a valuable and precious food due to the expense of its ingredients, particularly honey, hence its association with important ceremonies and celebratory events. Different regional variations in ingredients and shapes exist, but the fundamental composition and preparation methods remain largely consistent.
