Wolfsbane (band)
Wolfsbane were a British heavy metal band formed in Tamworth, Staffordshire, England in 1984. The band is noted for the energetic stage presence of vocalist Blaze Bayley, who later went on to front Iron Maiden.
History:
Wolfsbane's original lineup consisted of Blaze Bayley (vocals), Jase Edwards (guitar), Jeff Hateley (bass), and Steve Danger (drums). They gained a following in the UK club circuit with their high-energy performances and catchy, hard-rocking songs. They signed to Def American Recordings (later American Recordings) and released their debut album, Live Fast, Die Fast, in 1989.
Their second album, Down Fall the Good Guys, was released in 1991. Despite being well-received by fans and critics, it failed to achieve significant commercial success. Due to their lack of mainstream breakthrough, and perhaps influenced by the label's refocusing with acts like Johnny Cash and Slayer, Wolfsbane were dropped by their record label.
The band continued to tour and record independently. They released a self-titled album in 1994. In 1994, Bayley left the band to join Iron Maiden as their new vocalist, replacing Bruce Dickinson. Wolfsbane subsequently disbanded.
In 2007, Wolfsbane reformed with their original lineup for a short tour. They released an EP, Did It for the Money, in 2011, followed by a new studio album, Wolfsbane Save the World, in 2012.
Musical Style and Influences:
Wolfsbane's music is generally classified as heavy metal, with elements of hard rock and a strong emphasis on melody and catchy hooks. Their sound has been compared to bands like AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, and UFO.
