161 Athor is a large main-belt asteroid. It was discovered by James Craig Watson on April 19, 1876, and named after Hathor, the Egyptian goddess of love, beauty, music, motherhood and joy. Athor is notable for its dark surface and relatively slow rotation period. It orbits the Sun in the central region of the asteroid belt. Physical observations suggest Athor is a C-type asteroid, meaning it is carbonaceous and dark in color, with a low albedo, indicating it reflects very little sunlight. Its diameter is estimated to be around 44 kilometers.
