Wired (film)
Wired is a 1989 biographical film about the life and death of comedian and actor John Belushi. It is based on the 1984 book of the same name by Washington Post journalist Bob Woodward. The film stars Michael Chiklis as Belushi, alongside J. T. Walsh, Ray Baker, Patti D'Arbanville, and Lucinda Jenney.
Directed by Larry Peerce, Wired chronicles Belushi's rise to fame through Saturday Night Live and his subsequent struggles with drug addiction, culminating in his death from a drug overdose in 1982. The film utilizes a nonlinear narrative structure, weaving together scenes from different periods of Belushi's life. Bob Woodward is portrayed as a character in the film, investigating Belushi's life after his death.
The film was a critical and commercial failure, and it generated considerable controversy. Many critics and those who knew Belushi personally criticized the film for its perceived inaccuracies, sensationalism, and disrespectful portrayal of Belushi's life and death. Dan Aykroyd, a close friend and colleague of Belushi's, was particularly vocal in his condemnation of the film, calling for it to be boycotted.
