Wilton (town), Wisconsin

Wilton is a town located in Monroe County, Wisconsin, United States. As of the 2020 census, the town's population was 487.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 35.8 square miles (92.6 km2), all of it land. The Kickapoo River flows through the town.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 478 people, 187 households, and 136 families residing in the town. The population density was 13.3 people per square mile (5.1/km2). There were 202 housing units at an average density of 5.6 per square mile (2.2/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.33% White, 0.21% Native American, 0.84% Asian, 0.21% from other races, and 0.42% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.05% of the population.

There were 187 households, out of which 31.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.0% were married couples living together, 5.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.3% were non-families. 22.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.04.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 27.8% under the age of 18, 4.6% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 103.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 108.8 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $36,042, and the median income for a family was $41,250. Males had a median income of $28,333 versus $22,500 for females. The per capita income for the town was $16,937. About 5.5% of families and 8.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.1% of those under age 18 and 8.5% of those age 65 or over.
