William Robertson (Scottish minister, born 1686)

William Robertson (c. 1686 – 1745) was a Scottish minister of the Church of Scotland.

Robertson was born in Scotland, likely around 1686. He served as minister of the Cranston parish church in Midlothian, Scotland from 1715 until his death in 1745. He was known as a moderate in church politics, favoring a more pragmatic approach to ecclesiastical affairs. He married Eleanor Pitcairn (d. 1758) in 1720, and together they had several children, most notably the historian William Robertson, Principal of the University of Edinburgh, and the physician John Robertson. His connection to the influential and intellectually accomplished William Robertson the younger ensures his place in historical records.
