William Palliser (bishop)

William Palliser (1644-1727) was an Anglican clergyman and academic who served as Archbishop of Cashel in the Church of Ireland.

Born in Kirk Deighton, Yorkshire, England, Palliser was educated at St John's College, Cambridge, where he graduated with a BA in 1668, MA in 1671, and DD in 1683. He became a Fellow of St John's in 1668 and served as Master of the college from 1693 to 1698.

Palliser was appointed Bishop of Cloyne in 1693 and translated to Archbishop of Cashel in 1694, a position he held until his death in 1727. As Archbishop, he was known for his efforts to improve the finances and administration of the diocese. He also contributed to the building of several churches and schools in the Cashel archdiocese.

He was known for his strong Protestant and anti-Catholic views, reflecting the political and religious climate of the time. He actively worked to promote the interests of the established Church of Ireland.
