Survivor Series (1987)
Survivor Series (1987) was the inaugural Survivor Series professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE). It took place on November 26, 1987, at the Richfield Coliseum in Richfield Township, Ohio (near Cleveland). The event centered around the "Survivor Series" match, a team elimination match pitting teams of five wrestlers against each other. The main event featured two such matches: Andre the Giant's team (consisting of One Man Gang, King Kong Bundy, Butch Reed, and Rick Rude) against Hulk Hogan's team (consisting of Paul Orndorff, Don Muraco, Ken Patera, and Bam Bam Bigelow). The undercard also featured a women's Survivor Series match, with Fabulous Moolah's team (consisting of Velvet McIntyre, Dawn Marie, and Sensational Sherri) against Sensational Sherri's team (consisting of Lelani Kai, Judy Martin, Penny Mitchell, and Angie Minelli), and a tag team Survivor Series match with The Killer Bees' team (consisting of The Young Stallions, The British Bulldogs, The Rougeau Brothers, and Jim Powers & Brad Rheingans) against The Hart Foundation's team (consisting of Demolition, The Dream Team, The Islanders, and Nikolai Volkoff & Boris Zhukov). The event was created to compete directly with the NWA's (National Wrestling Alliance) Starrcade, held annually on Thanksgiving. Survivor Series 1987 marked the beginning of what became an annual tradition for the WWF/WWE, and helped to establish the company's dominance in the professional wrestling market.
