Soul City Records (American label)
Soul City Records was an American record label founded in 1968 by Johnny Rivers, Marc Gordon, and Tony Scotti. The label was distributed by Imperial Records (later United Artists Records) until 1976. It was based in Los Angeles, California.
Soul City Records is best known for its association with the soul and R&B group The 5th Dimension, who achieved considerable success on the label. Other notable artists who recorded for Soul City include The Blossoms, Impact, and Billy Taylor. The label's output primarily focused on soul, pop, and R&B music. While not a major label, Soul City Records played a significant role in the soul music scene of the late 1960s and early 1970s, particularly through the success of The 5th Dimension. After its distribution deal ended in 1976, the label ceased operations.
