William Byrne (Catholic)
William Byrne (born September 13, 1964) is an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who currently serves as the tenth Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Born in Washington, D.C., Byrne was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Washington on June 25, 1994, by Cardinal James Hickey. He served in various pastoral and administrative roles within the archdiocese, including as pastor of multiple parishes. He was also the Secretary for Pastoral Ministry and Social Concerns for the Archdiocese of Washington.
On October 15, 2020, Pope Francis appointed Byrne as the tenth Bishop of Springfield, Massachusetts. He was consecrated and installed on December 14, 2020.
On January 31, 2024, Pope Francis appointed Byrne as the Archbishop of Santa Fe. He was installed on May 29, 2024.
Byrne holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from The College of the Holy Cross, a Master of Divinity degree from St. Joseph’s Seminary in New York, and a Licentiate in Canon Law from The Catholic University of America.
