Moyola (District Electoral Area)

Moyola is a District Electoral Area (DEA) in Northern Ireland, forming part of the Mid Ulster District Council. It is one of seven DEAs within the Mid Ulster District, which was formed in 2015 by the merger of Cookstown District Council, Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council, and Magherafelt District Council.

The Moyola DEA encompasses a geographical area and is used for local council elections. The purpose of the DEA is to elect a specified number of councillors to the Mid Ulster District Council. These councillors represent the interests of the residents living within the Moyola DEA boundaries.

The boundaries of the Moyola DEA, like other DEAs, are subject to periodic review by the Local Government Boundaries Commissioner for Northern Ireland. This ensures fair representation based on population changes and other relevant factors. The electoral system used is proportional representation using the single transferable vote (STV). This system allows voters to rank candidates in order of preference, aiming to create a council that reflects the different political views within the district.

Information about the current councillors representing the Moyola DEA, as well as election results, can be found on the Mid Ulster District Council website and the Electoral Office for Northern Ireland website. The political composition of the DEA can vary after each local government election.
