Wilder (album)

Wilder is the sixth studio album by the British new wave band The Teardrop Explodes, released in 1981. It was the band's second and final studio album, following Kilimanjaro (1980).

The album represents a departure from the more experimental and psychedelic sound of Kilimanjaro, embracing a more polished and sophisticated pop style. It was largely written by frontman Julian Cope and produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley, who also produced albums for Madness and Dexys Midnight Runners.

Key tracks on the album include "When I Dream About You," "Passionate Friend," and "Colleen." While Wilder received generally positive reviews upon release, it was less commercially successful than Kilimanjaro. Internal tensions within the band, particularly between Cope and keyboardist David Balfe, contributed to the band's breakup shortly after the album's release.

Wilder is considered by many to be a classic of the post-punk era and a significant influence on subsequent alternative and indie pop artists. It showcased Julian Cope's songwriting abilities and cemented The Teardrop Explodes' place in British musical history.
