Blumea (journal)

Blumea is a peer-reviewed scientific journal devoted to the taxonomy, biogeography, evolution, and morphology of plants, particularly those of Southeast Asia, Malesia, and the Western Pacific. It is published by the National Herbarium Nederland, which is part of the Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden, the Netherlands.

The journal was established in 1934, succeeding the Bulletin du Jardin Botanique de Buitenzorg (originally Annales du Jardin Botanique de Buitenzorg) and Treubia. Blumea publishes original research articles, reviews, and short communications. The scope of the journal encompasses all groups of plants, including flowering plants, ferns, mosses, algae, and fungi.

Blumea is named after Carl Ludwig Blume (1796-1862), a German-Dutch botanist who served as the Director of the Bogor Botanical Garden (then known as 's Lands Plantentuin te Buitenzorg) in Java, Indonesia. He made significant contributions to the knowledge of the flora of Southeast Asia.

The journal is generally published in English. All articles published in Blumea are made freely available online shortly after publication. This open access policy aims to maximize the dissemination and impact of research on plant biodiversity.
