Washington Square (Bangkok)
Washington Square (Bangkok), officially known as Suan Benjakitti Forest Park Phase 2, is a public park and green space located in the Khlong Toei district of Bangkok, Thailand. It is situated adjacent to Benjakitti Park, extending the total green area in the city center. The park aims to provide a recreational space, improve air quality, and enhance the overall environment for Bangkok residents.
The park features a variety of landscaping elements including walking and cycling paths, diverse plant life, ponds, and resting areas. It's designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing Benjakitti Park, creating a larger contiguous green space. It incorporates sustainable design principles, focusing on native plants and efficient water management.
While unofficially referred to as "Washington Square" by some, this name is not officially recognized by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) or other governing bodies. The origin of the nickname is not definitively known, though it may be due to similarities in layout or purpose to Washington Square Park in New York City. Officially, the park remains an extension of Benjakitti Park or is referred to specifically as Benjakitti Forest Park Phase 2. The name "Washington Square (Bangkok)" is generally used colloquially.
