United States Courthouse (Natchez)

The United States Courthouse in Natchez, Mississippi, is a historic federal courthouse located at 701 North Main Street. It serves the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi.

Constructed between 1936 and 1937, the building is an example of Depression-era federal architecture, reflecting a restrained Classical Revival style. Designed by Louis A. Simon, Supervising Architect of the Treasury, it replaced an earlier, smaller courthouse that had become inadequate for the district's needs. The courthouse is characterized by its symmetrical facade, featuring a central pavilion with fluted Doric columns and a pediment. The exterior is clad in limestone.

Inside, the courthouse originally housed courtrooms, judges' chambers, offices for the U.S. Attorney, U.S. Marshal, and other federal agencies. Significant interior features include marble flooring, wood paneling, and decorative plasterwork.

The United States Courthouse (Natchez) is historically significant as a representation of the federal government's presence in the region during the New Deal era, and for its architectural merit. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. The building continues to serve as a functional courthouse, playing an important role in the administration of justice in the Southern District of Mississippi.
