Mozhaysk
Mozhaysk is a town and the administrative center of Mozhaysky District in Moscow Oblast, Russia, located 110 kilometers (68 mi) west of Moscow, on the Moscow River.
History:
Mozhaysk is one of the oldest towns in the Moscow Oblast. It was first mentioned in chronicles in 1303 as the center of a small principality. The town played a significant strategic role throughout its history, particularly during periods of invasion. It served as a key defensive point west of Moscow, bearing witness to battles against the Golden Horde, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Napoleon's Grande Armée in 1812 (Battle of Borodino occurred nearby), and the Nazi German forces during World War II. The Mozhaysk Kremlin, while not entirely preserved, reflects the town's historic significance as a fortified center.
