USS Valiant (PYc-51)

The USS Valiant (PYc-51) was a United States Navy patrol yacht in commission from 1941 to 1946. Originally built as the civilian yacht Valiant, she was acquired by the Navy prior to World War II for coastal patrol duties.

Valiant was built in 1927 by Consolidated Shipbuilding Corporation in Morris Heights, New York. Before her naval service, she operated as a private yacht.

Following her acquisition by the Navy, Valiant was designated PYc-51 (Patrol Yacht, Coastal) and commissioned on November 26, 1941. She was assigned to the Eastern Sea Frontier and operated primarily along the United States East Coast, conducting anti-submarine patrols and other coastal defense duties. Her activities involved searching for enemy submarines and protecting coastal shipping lanes.

After the end of World War II, Valiant was decommissioned on January 18, 1946, and subsequently sold back into private ownership. Her post-war history and eventual fate are not widely documented.
