USS New Hampshire (SSN-778)
The USS New Hampshire (SSN-778) is a Virginia-class nuclear-powered fast attack submarine in the United States Navy. She is the fifth ship of the Virginia class and the fourth ship of the United States Navy to be named after the state of New Hampshire.
Her keel was laid down on April 30, 2007, at the Electric Boat division of General Dynamics in Groton, Connecticut. She was launched on January 9, 2008, and christened on June 21, 2008, by Patricia McLane, the wife of former New Hampshire Governor John H. Sununu. The USS New Hampshire was commissioned on October 25, 2008, at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine.
As a Virginia-class submarine, the USS New Hampshire is designed for a wide range of missions, including anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, strike warfare, intelligence gathering, and special operations support. She possesses advanced stealth capabilities, sophisticated sonar systems, and the ability to launch Tomahawk cruise missiles. The submarine is also equipped to support Navy SEALs and other special operations forces.
The USS New Hampshire is assigned to Submarine Squadron Six, based at Naval Station Norfolk in Norfolk, Virginia. She has participated in numerous exercises and deployments around the world, contributing to the United States Navy's maritime security efforts.
