Tri-Rail
Tri-Rail is a commuter rail line in South Florida, running along the southeastern coast of the state. Officially known as the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA), Tri-Rail operates between Mangonia Park in Palm Beach County and Miami International Airport Station in Miami-Dade County, with numerous stops in Broward County.
The system primarily serves commuters traveling between the suburban residential areas north of Miami and the major employment centers in Miami-Dade County and Broward County. Tri-Rail offers a more convenient alternative to driving on congested highways like I-95 and the Florida Turnpike.
Tri-Rail connects with various other transportation systems, including Metrorail and Metromover in Miami-Dade County, Brightline (another passenger rail service), and local bus networks throughout its service area. These connections allow passengers to access a wider range of destinations across South Florida.
The SFRTA is governed by a board composed of representatives from Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade Counties. The organization is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and expansion of the Tri-Rail system. Funding for Tri-Rail comes from a combination of federal, state, and local sources, including passenger fares and a dedicated transportation sales tax in the three counties it serves.
Ongoing improvements to the Tri-Rail system include track upgrades, station renovations, and the addition of new trains, all aimed at increasing capacity, reliability, and ridership. Future plans involve potentially extending service further north into Martin County and implementing "Tri-Rail Downtown Miami Link" to provide direct access to downtown Miami.
