Transa (Caetano Veloso album)
Transa is a 1972 studio album by Brazilian musician Caetano Veloso. It was recorded and released during Veloso's self-imposed exile in London following his imprisonment and persecution by the Brazilian military dictatorship.
The album is characterized by its experimental and eclectic sound, blending elements of Brazilian music, rock, funk, and avant-garde influences. The lyrics are often complex and poetic, reflecting Veloso's experiences of exile and his reflections on Brazilian culture and identity from a distance.
Key tracks on Transa include "You Don't Know Me," a song sung in English and Portuguese, and "Triste Bahia," a traditional Brazilian folk song reimagined with a psychedelic arrangement. Other notable songs include "Nine Out of Ten," which comments on British culture, and "It's a Long Way," which is a reflection on the experience of being away from home.
Transa is widely considered one of Veloso's most important and influential works. It is a landmark album in the history of Brazilian music and a testament to Veloso's artistic vision and resilience in the face of political oppression. The album's raw and unconventional sound was considered groundbreaking at the time of its release and continues to be celebrated for its innovative approach to music making.
