Tom Thumb (film)

Tom Thumb is a 1958 British-American musical fantasy film directed by George Pal and released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The film is based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale "Tom Thumb" (also known as "Thumbling"). It stars Russ Tamblyn in the title role, alongside June Thorburn, Peter Sellers, Terry-Thomas, and Alan Young.

The film tells the story of a tiny boy, Tom Thumb, who is no bigger than his father's thumb. Tom is kind and helpful, but his size makes him a target for danger. He becomes involved with two bumbling thieves, Ivan (Peter Sellers) and Antony (Terry-Thomas), who plan to steal the royal treasure. Tom uses his small size to outwit the thieves and eventually help the King.

Tom Thumb is known for its vibrant Technicolor cinematography, its elaborate special effects (especially considering the era), and its catchy songs, some of which were written by Peggy Lee. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards, winning one for Best Special Effects. It is considered a classic of children's cinema and is remembered for its imaginative storytelling and its optimistic message about the power of kindness and courage, regardless of size.
