Gun Runner (film)

Gun Runner is a 1969 Canadian crime film directed by Don Owen and starring Judd Hirsch, Pierre Riou, and Carlyn Watts. The film is a prequel to Owen's earlier, more acclaimed, film Nobody Waved Goodbye (1964).

The plot revolves around Peter (Hirsch), five years before the events of Nobody Waved Goodbye, as he becomes involved in smuggling guns from Canada to the United States. He initially works with an older criminal, but eventually decides to go into business for himself. The film explores themes of alienation, rebellion against societal norms, and the challenges of growing up in the 1960s. Unlike Nobody Waved Goodbye, Gun Runner received less critical attention and is not as widely known. It presents a darker, more cynical view of Peter's formative experiences. The film is characterized by its realistic portrayal of Toronto in the late 1960s and its use of cinéma vérité techniques.
