WDAF-TV
WDAF-TV, virtual channel 4 (UHF digital channel 31), is a Fox-affiliated television station licensed to Kansas City, Missouri, United States, also serving Kansas City, Kansas. The station is owned by Nexstar Media Group. WDAF-TV's studios are located on Summit Street in the Westport section of Kansas City, Missouri, and its transmitter is located in the city's Blue Ridge section.
Originally signing on the air on October 16, 1949, WDAF-TV was one of the first television stations in the Kansas City market. It was originally owned by the Cook Paint and Varnish Company, alongside WDAF radio (610 AM) and WDAF-FM (102.1 FM, now KCKC). WDAF-TV inherited its call letters from its radio sisters. From its inception until 1994, WDAF-TV was affiliated with NBC.
In 1994, as a result of a larger affiliation deal between News Corporation and New World Communications, WDAF-TV became a Fox affiliate. This occurred because CBS was looking to affiliate with a station owned by Westinghouse (who was buying CBS at the time), and CBS switched its affiliation to KCTV, which at the time was one of the stronger stations in the market. NBC then affiliated with KSHB-TV. The affiliation switch marked a significant change in the Kansas City television landscape.
WDAF-TV broadcasts local news, syndicated programming, and Fox network content. The station has a news department that produces several hours of news programming each day. It also airs a variety of syndicated talk shows, court shows, and entertainment programs.
