Tom McGuinness (musician)

Tom McGuinness (born 2 December 1941, Wimbledon, London) is an English guitarist, bassist and songwriter, best known for his work with Manfred Mann and McGuinness Flint.

McGuinness began his musical career in the early 1960s, initially playing guitar in various blues and R&B bands. He gained prominence as the guitarist for Manfred Mann, joining the band in 1963. With Manfred Mann, McGuinness contributed to numerous hit singles, including "Do Wah Diddy Diddy," "Pretty Flamingo," and "Mighty Quinn." He remained with Manfred Mann until their disbandment in 1969.

Following Manfred Mann, McGuinness formed McGuinness Flint with fellow former Manfred Mann members Hughie Flint and Benny Gallagher, along with Dennis Coulson and Dixie Dean. McGuinness Flint achieved chart success with singles such as "When I'm Dead and Gone" and "Malt and Barley Blues." The band released several albums before disbanding in the mid-1970s.

In subsequent years, McGuinness has continued to perform and record music, often collaborating with other musicians. He has also participated in various Manfred Mann reunions. He is respected for his guitar playing and songwriting contributions to British rock and pop music.
