Tom Allen (American football)

Tom Allen (born April 18, 1970) is an American football coach. He most recently served as the head football coach at Indiana University from 2017 to 2023.

Allen's coaching career began at the high school level in Indiana, where he achieved considerable success. He gradually transitioned to college coaching roles, serving as a defensive coordinator at various schools, including Lambuth University, Arkansas State University, and the University of South Florida.

In 2016, Allen joined the Indiana Hoosiers as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach under head coach Kevin Wilson. After Wilson's resignation in December 2016, Allen was named the head coach.

During his tenure at Indiana, Allen led the Hoosiers to a notable period of success, including a winning season in 2019 and a historic 6-1 record in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. He was named the AFCA Coach of the Year in 2020. However, following the 2020 season, the team's performance declined, ultimately leading to his departure after the 2023 season. He finished his tenure at Indiana with an overall record of 33-49.
