Airware

Airware was a San Francisco-based company that developed an operating system for commercial drones. Founded in 2011, Airware aimed to provide a comprehensive software platform that would enable enterprises to more easily build and operate drone-based applications.

The Airware platform included components for flight control, payload management, data processing, and cloud services. It was designed to support a variety of drone hardware and use cases across industries like construction, agriculture, and mining.

Airware offered both software and hardware solutions, including the Aerial Information Platform (AIP), which allowed businesses to process and analyze drone-collected data, and RED Aircraft, Airware's own line of commercial drones.

In 2018, Airware abruptly ceased operations, citing challenges in the competitive drone software market and a failure to secure further funding. While the company no longer exists, its efforts contributed to the development of the broader commercial drone ecosystem and influenced the evolution of drone software platforms. The technologies and approaches developed by Airware continue to inform current drone software development.
