Tim Spencer (American football)

Tim Spencer (born April 4, 1952) is a former American football running back who played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Chicago Bears and the San Diego Chargers.

Spencer played college football at Ohio State University, where he was a member of the 1973 Big Ten Championship team. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 8th round (207th overall) of the 1974 NFL Draft.

Spencer played three seasons for the Bears (1974-1976) primarily as a reserve running back and special teams player. He was then traded to the San Diego Chargers, where he enjoyed a more significant role. He played for the Chargers from 1977 to 1982, serving as a valuable backup to star running back Chuck Muncie and later as a key contributor in the Chargers' high-powered offense. Spencer was known for his strong running style and his ability to catch passes out of the backfield.

After his playing career, Spencer transitioned into coaching. He held various coaching positions at the high school and college levels.
