Tim Cahill (born January 2, 1959) is an American politician from Massachusetts. He served as the Treasurer and Receiver-General of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2011.
Cahill began his political career as a Democrat, serving as a State Representative for the 9th Barnstable District from 1995 to 2003. As Treasurer, he oversaw the state's pension fund, bond sales, and unclaimed property division.
In 2010, Cahill ran for Governor of Massachusetts as an independent candidate. His campaign focused on fiscal responsibility and government reform. He ultimately finished third in the election, behind incumbent Deval Patrick (Democrat) and Charlie Baker (Republican).
Following his time as Treasurer, Cahill joined the private sector. He has worked as a consultant and in the financial services industry. He has also been involved in various civic and charitable organizations. His tenure as Treasurer was marked by both successes in managing state finances and controversies surrounding campaign finance practices. He faced scrutiny and legal challenges related to advertising campaigns he ran while in office, which were alleged to have improperly used public funds for political purposes.
