Candyman (singer)
Candyman (born Johnny Mann, Jr., in Los Angeles, California) is an American R&B and new jack swing singer, best known for his 1990 hit single "Knockin' Boots."
Candyman emerged in the late 1980s, signing with Epic Records. His debut album, Ain't No Shame in My Game, was released in 1990. The album featured "Knockin' Boots," which reached number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming his signature song. The sexually suggestive nature of the lyrics contributed to its popularity and notoriety.
While "Knockin' Boots" remains his most well-known track, Candyman released further singles and albums throughout the 1990s. His follow-up singles, such as "Melt in Your Mouth" and "Back in the Day," achieved moderate success but did not reach the same level of popularity as "Knockin' Boots."
Candyman continued to perform and release music sporadically in subsequent years. Although he is considered a one-hit wonder by some, "Knockin' Boots" has endured as a popular song and a quintessential example of early 1990s R&B/new jack swing.
