Chris Duarte (basketball)
Chris Duarte (born June 13, 1997) is a Dominican-Canadian professional basketball player who currently plays for the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Early Life and Career:
Duarte was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and raised in the Dominican Republic. He began his college basketball career at Northwest Florida State College, a junior college, where he earned NJCAA All-American honors.
College Career:
After two seasons at Northwest Florida State, Duarte transferred to the University of Oregon. As a junior in 2019-20, he averaged 12.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. In his senior season (2020-21), he significantly improved, averaging 17.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. He was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year and earned consensus second-team All-American honors for his performance. He was also awarded the Jerry West Award as the nation's top shooting guard.
Professional Career:
Duarte was selected by the Indiana Pacers with the 13th overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2022.
In July 2023, Duarte was traded to the Sacramento Kings.
National Team Career:
Duarte has represented the Dominican Republic national basketball team in international competitions.
