Lady Shore (1794 ship)

The Lady Shore was a merchant vessel built in 1794. Initially employed in trade, she is best known for her role in the transportation of convicts to the penal colony of New South Wales, Australia.

The Lady Shore's voyage in 1797 was marred by a mutiny. A group of convicts, aided by some of the ship's crew, seized control of the vessel while it was en route to New South Wales. The mutineers, led in part by a convict named James Lambert, successfully navigated the Lady Shore to South America, specifically Montevideo, where they intended to sell the ship.

Following the mutiny, the ship's subsequent fate remains somewhat unclear. Accounts suggest that the Spanish authorities in Montevideo impounded the Lady Shore. It is believed that some of the mutineers remained in South America, while others were eventually recaptured and faced consequences for their actions.
