Robert Arbuthnot (British Army officer)

Robert Arbuthnot (born 1773, died 1853) was a British Army officer who served during the Napoleonic Wars. He entered the army as an ensign in the 29th Regiment of Foot in 1793. He saw active service in the West Indies and later in the Iberian Peninsula, rising through the ranks to become a lieutenant-colonel. He commanded a brigade in the Peninsular War, participating in notable battles such as Vitoria, the Pyrenees, and Orthez. He was wounded in action multiple times. Following the Peninsular War, he continued his military career, achieving the rank of General in 1851. He was appointed a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB).
