The Mark of Cain (band)

The Mark of Cain (sometimes abbreviated as TMOC) is an Australian industrial rock band formed in Adelaide in 1984. The band is fronted by vocalist and guitarist John Scott, with his brother Kim Scott on bass and a succession of drummers. Known for their powerful, heavy sound, precise instrumentation, and John Scott's distinctive monotone vocals, The Mark of Cain has cultivated a dedicated cult following despite a relatively sporadic release schedule.

The band's sound is often characterized by its rhythmic complexity, use of odd time signatures, and a minimalist, industrial-influenced aesthetic. Influences often cited include bands such as Killing Joke, Swans, and early industrial pioneers. Their lyrics often deal with themes of alienation, violence, and social commentary.

The Mark of Cain has released several studio albums, including "Battlesick" (1989), "Ill at Ease" (1995), "This Is This" (2001), and "Songs of the Third and Fifth" (2012). They have toured extensively both nationally and internationally, sharing stages with bands such as Helmet, Rollins Band, and Prong. Despite periods of inactivity and changes in lineup, The Mark of Cain has remained a significant and influential force in the Australian alternative music scene. The Scott brothers' commitment to their distinctive sound and uncompromising artistic vision has cemented their status as one of Australia's most respected and unique rock bands.
