Tankard (band)
Tankard is a German thrash metal band formed in 1982 in Frankfurt am Main. They are known for their humorous lyrics primarily centered around beer and alcohol consumption, earning them the nickname "The Kings of Beer."
Tankard's lineup has remained remarkably stable throughout their career, with the core members including Andreas "Gerre" Geremia (vocals), Andreas Gutjahr (guitar), Frank Thorwarth (bass), and Olaf Zissel (drums). While Zissel left in 2018 and was replaced by Gerd Lücking, the other three founding members have remained constant.
Musically, Tankard's sound is characterized by fast, aggressive riffs, pounding drums, and Gerre's distinctive raspy vocals. They are considered a part of the "Teutonic Four" of German thrash metal, alongside Kreator, Sodom, and Destruction.
Tankard has released numerous studio albums, consistently delivering their signature brand of thrash metal. Some of their notable albums include Zombie Attack (1986), Chemical Invasion (1987), The Morning After (1988), Stone Cold Sober (1992), and One Foot in the Grave (2017).
Beyond their musical output, Tankard has maintained a strong presence in the metal scene through extensive touring and festival appearances. Their energetic live performances, combined with their relatable lyrical themes, have cemented their status as a beloved band within the thrash metal community.
