Guy Williams (actor)

Guy Williams (born Armando Joseph Catalano; January 14, 1924 – disappeared May 1989, declared legally dead May 6, 1999) was an American actor, best known for his roles as Zorro in the Walt Disney television series Zorro (1957–1959) and as Professor John Robinson in the CBS science fiction series Lost in Space (1965–1968).

Williams began his career as a male model in New York City. He appeared in several television commercials and had small roles in films before landing the title role in Zorro. His portrayal of the swashbuckling hero made him a household name. The series, though only running for two seasons due to a dispute between Disney and ABC, became a cultural phenomenon and remains popular in syndication.

Following Zorro's cancellation, Williams took a hiatus from acting before returning to television in Bonanza and Lost in Space. Lost in Space, though critically panned, was a ratings success and further cemented Williams' status as a television icon.

In the 1970s, Williams largely retired from acting, opting to spend more time with his family and pursue other interests. He moved to Argentina, his wife's native country, where he became a popular figure and was often recognized for his role as Zorro.

In May 1989, Williams disappeared. Despite extensive searches, he was never found. He was declared legally dead on May 6, 1999.
