Talk Dirty to Me (film)

Talk Dirty to Me is a 1980 American comedy film directed by Bob Clark and starring George Kennedy, Gary Goodrow, and Melissa Prophet. The film follows George La Rue (Kennedy), a middle-aged plumbing contractor who impulsively buys a struggling "Dial-a-Joke" telephone service. He hires gregarious comedian Bob Valentine (Goodrow) to write and deliver the jokes, and they unexpectedly transform the mundane service into a raunchy, sexually suggestive hotline dubbed "Talk Dirty to Me."

The film explores themes of midlife crisis, the changing social landscape regarding sexuality, and the unexpected success that can arise from catering to taboo desires. The humor is primarily based on suggestive jokes, double entendres, and the reactions of the characters involved, particularly La Rue and his increasingly bewildered wife, Margo (Suzanne Barnes).

While Talk Dirty to Me was not a critical success, it became a cult classic, finding an audience due to its low-brow humor and depiction of a burgeoning adult entertainment industry. The film spawned a sequel, Talk Dirty to Me Part 2 (1984), also directed by Bob Clark.
