Susedgrad

Susedgrad is the name of a historical fortress and a district located in the western part of Zagreb, Croatia.

The Susedgrad Fortress is a ruined medieval castle situated on a hill overlooking the present-day Susedgrad district. Its construction dates back to the 13th century. Throughout its history, the fortress served as a strategic point for defense and administration, and it was owned by various noble families. The castle fell into disrepair and was eventually abandoned. Today, the ruins are a protected historical site, offering panoramic views of the surrounding area. Archaeological research and preservation efforts continue at the site.

The Susedgrad District is one of the districts (Croatian: četvrt) of the City of Zagreb. It encompasses a large area west of the city center and is predominantly residential, with a mix of older and newer housing developments. The district is characterized by its proximity to nature, including forests and hills, offering recreational opportunities for residents. Modern Susedgrad includes many neighborhoods and is one of the more populous districts of Zagreb. The historical fortress gives the district its name and a sense of local identity.
