Su Xuelin

Su Xuelin (Chinese: 蘇雪林; Wade–Giles: Su Hsüeh-lin; December 24, 1897 – April 21, 1999), also known as Hsi Tseng-po, was a prominent Chinese writer, literary critic, and scholar. She is particularly known for her contributions to the study of classical Chinese literature, especially the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms (三國演義).

Su Xuelin was born in Rui'an, Zhejiang Province. She received her education in France in the 1920s, studying literature and art. Upon returning to China, she became a professor at various universities, including Wuhan University and National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan.

Her writing spanned various genres, including novels, essays, and academic treatises. She was a prolific writer and published extensively throughout her life. Her works often explored themes of traditional Chinese culture, historical figures, and social issues.

Su Xuelin's literary criticism and scholarship focused primarily on classical Chinese literature. Her meticulous research and insightful analyses contributed significantly to the understanding and appreciation of these works. She is remembered as a dedicated scholar and a significant figure in 20th-century Chinese literary circles. She was also known for her staunch opposition to the New Culture Movement and its rejection of traditional Chinese values.
