Abdy baronets of Albyns (1660)
The Abdy baronets of Albyns, of Albyns in the County of Essex, is a title in the Baronetage of England. It was created on 22 June 1660 for Thomas Abdy, Member of Parliament for Essex.
The Abdy family were long seated at Albyns Manor in Stapleford Abbots, Essex. Thomas Abdy (d. 1686), the first baronet, was succeeded by his son, Anthony, the second baronet. Anthony was in turn succeeded by his son, William, the third baronet. On his death, the title passed to his son, Anthony Thomas, the fourth baronet. The fourth baronet died unmarried and was succeeded by his brother, William, the fifth baronet.
The fifth baronet was succeeded by his son, William, the sixth baronet. The sixth baronet represented Higham Ferrers in Parliament. He was succeeded by his son, William Abdy, the seventh baronet.
Upon the death of the seventh baronet in 1868, the title became either extinct or dormant. Some sources claim extinction, while others propose the title passed to a distant relative. The matter has remained unresolved and unproven.
