Reaper (TV series)
Reaper is an American comedy-drama television series that aired on The CW from September 25, 2007, to May 26, 2009. Created by Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, the series follows Sam Oliver (Bret Harrison), a young man who discovers on his 21st birthday that his parents sold his soul to the Devil (Ray Wise) before he was born.
As part of the deal, Sam is now obligated to work as the Devil's bounty hunter, retrieving escaped souls from Hell and returning them to eternal damnation. He is aided in his tasks by his best friends, Bert "Sock" Wysocki (Tyler Labine) and Ben Gonzalez (Rick Gonzalez), who work with him at the "Work Bench," a fictional home improvement store.
The series blends elements of comedy, horror, and fantasy. While dealing with the supernatural and the consequences of his soul's contract, Sam also navigates the everyday challenges of young adulthood, including relationships, friendships, and financial struggles. The show's humor often derives from the juxtaposition of the mundane and the demonic.
Recurring characters include Andi Prenderghast (Missy Peregrym), Sam's co-worker and love interest, and Josie Miller (Valerie Rae Miller), another bounty hunter working for the Devil.
The series was cancelled after two seasons. Despite a dedicated fanbase, Reaper did not achieve high enough ratings to warrant renewal. The show concluded with a cliffhanger ending that left several plot threads unresolved.
