Saturday Morning (album)
"Saturday Morning" is a compilation album of songs inspired by Saturday morning cartoons, originally released in 1995. The album features contemporary alternative rock and pop artists performing covers of theme songs from various animated television shows that were popular with children in the United States and Canada during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.
The album's concept was conceived by Ralph Sall, who also served as producer. It achieved significant commercial success, reaching platinum status and spawning several sequels and related projects, including "Saturday Morning: Cartoons' Greatest Hits," "Saturday Morning Christmas," and "Saturday Morning Rocks."
Notable artists who contributed to the original "Saturday Morning" album include Liz Phair, Butthole Surfers, Violent Femmes, Matthew Sweet, Collective Soul, Juliana Hatfield, and Sponge. The tracks range from faithful renditions to significantly reworked interpretations of the original themes. The album's popularity is attributed to a combination of nostalgia for the targeted demographic's childhood and the appeal of well-known alternative artists performing familiar tunes.
