Citizen (band)

Citizen is an American rock band from Southeast Michigan and Northwest Ohio. Formed in 2009, the band is known for its blend of alternative rock, emo, and pop punk influences. The current lineup consists of Mat Kerekes (vocals), Nick Hamm (guitar), Jake Duhaime (guitar), and Eric Hamm (bass).

Citizen gained early attention through self-released EPs and online music communities. They signed to Run For Cover Records and released their debut studio album, Youth, in 2013. Youth was praised for its raw energy and emotionally driven lyrics, establishing the band as a prominent act within the burgeoning "emo revival" scene.

Following Youth, Citizen released Everybody Is Going to Heaven in 2015. This album saw the band exploring darker and more atmospheric sonic landscapes, further distancing themselves from purely pop-punk aesthetics. Their third album, As You Please, arrived in 2017, exhibiting a more melodic and mature songwriting approach.

Citizen's fourth album, Life In Your Glass World, released in 2021, explored a broader range of influences, incorporating elements of synth-pop and indie rock. The album represented a further evolution in the band's sound, showcasing their willingness to experiment and push their creative boundaries.

Citizen continues to tour and release music, maintaining a dedicated fanbase through their consistent output and engaging live performances. They are considered a significant contributor to the evolution of modern emo and alternative rock music.
