String Theory (Hanson album)
String Theory is the sixth studio album and second concept album by the American pop-rock trio Hanson, released on November 9, 2018, through 3CG Records. The album features re-arrangements of some of Hanson's previously released songs, as well as new material, all performed with a live string orchestra.
The album's concept explores themes of life, love, and the journey of self-discovery, framed through the metaphor of string theory in physics, which posits that the fundamental constituents of reality are not point-like particles, but rather one-dimensional strings. This concept is reflected in the orchestral arrangements, which aim to create a complex and interconnected sonic landscape.
String Theory was recorded live with a full orchestra at various venues, including Prague and Los Angeles. The album consists of two parts: one featuring their classic hits re-imagined with orchestral arrangements and the other containing new songs. Notable singles from the album include "Reaching For The Sky (Chapter One)" and "Finally Home."
The album was accompanied by a world tour in 2018 and 2019, where Hanson performed with local orchestras in each city, further emphasizing the collaborative and live nature of the project. String Theory received generally positive reviews, with critics praising the ambition and execution of the orchestral arrangements, and the way they brought new life to familiar songs.
