Stockach

Stockach is a town in the district of Constance (Konstanz), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is located about 25 km north of Lake Constance, near the Hegau region.

Geography: Stockach lies on the Stockacher Aach river and is situated at the edge of the Hegau volcanic region. Its altitude ranges from approximately 400 to 600 meters above sea level.

History: The history of Stockach can be traced back to Roman times. It received town privileges in the 13th century. Stockach played a significant role in the Napoleonic Wars, being the site of two major battles in 1799 and 1800. The Battle of Stockach (1799) was a significant victory for the Austrian forces against the French.

Economy: The local economy is diverse, with a mix of industry, agriculture, and tourism.

Culture and Attractions: Stockach is known for its annual “Narrengericht” (Fools' Court) during the Swabian-Alemannic Fastnacht (Carnival) season. This is a satirical event where the town council is put on trial. Other attractions include the historic old town center with its half-timbered houses, the city church, and the surrounding Hegau landscape.
